Adult Discipleship Development

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect. ~Romans 12:1-2

Paul, writing to the Church in Rome, urged those early Christians to seek a new life in Christ. He saw this transformation to happen through the renewal of the mind. By growth through study, our eyes are opened to see God’s presence and work in our lives and world in a new way. This growth is exciting to see in a person as well as in a church. At St. John the Apostle we want to be intentional about opening our lives to God’s work of transformation.

Adult Discipleship Development offers several opportunities for people to form relationships and grow spiritually. Three are listed below. Browse through the pages listed in the menu for information on all adult groups.

Disciple Bible Study - This is a 34 week in-depth Bible study course. Members rotate bringing snacks and dessert. We would like to encourage each of you to prayerfully consider this amazing growth opportunity.

Traditional Sunday School - These are open classes that choose either to study a topical issue or to have a Bible study. They offer members the chance to build relationships within the context of Sunday morning activities.

Academy Sunday School - These classes are short term studies designed for today’s busy adult. Classes meet Sunday morning’s at 9:45AM and 11AM and span from 4 - 10 weeks in length. Topics range from an introduction to Methodist history and doctrine to studies of the Old Testament and New Testament. The typical format of these classes is short to moderate daily reading of Scripture coupled with the weekly Sunday morning meeting. The meetings involve lively give-and-take with the group which adds insight to our personal experience of the Scripture. Academy classes help lead you toward a deeper relationship with God and will give you the opportunity to grow in your path to discipleship.
